BHU Protest: ABVP’s Torchlight March Over Women’s Safety | Students Demand Chief Proctor’s Removal

The ABVP-led indefinite protest at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) entered its ninth day on October 1, with students holding a torchlight procession from the Central Office to Singh Dwar and raising demands linked to women’s safety, student rights and administrative accountability.The protest began on September 23. ABVP has demanded the removal of BHU Chief Proctor Prof. Sandeep Pokhariya, along with reforms to the university's security and proctorial system. The organisation has also called for CCTV cameras, better lighting at vulnerable locations, restrictions on unauthorised entry and other campus-security measures.The agitation has included sit-ins, a symbolic hunger strike by students and other forms of protest.
