West Bengal Terror Probe: Man Detained in Karnataka Over Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba Links | News18
A security probe is underway in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi after a 19-year-old man from West Bengal was detained for questioning over suspected online contacts with individuals allegedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based militant organisation. The man, identified in media reports as Mamatazwul Malik, was detained late Saturday in a joint operation involving central intelligence officials and local police. He had reportedly been working at a jewellery shop in Saraf Bazaar, Kalaburagi, alongside his brother.Investigators are examining his social media communications and messages to determine the nature of the suspected contacts and whether any sensitive information was shared. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the messages or established the extent of his alleged association with the organisation.Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has said central agencies and state police worked together in the operation. Reports also indicate that two individuals were initially detained, with one subsequently released after investigators found no apparent link. The case has drawn attention to the role of online communications in security investigations. However, the allegations remain under investigation, and detention for questioning should not be treated as proof of involvement in unlawful activity. What have investigators established so far?
